The 10th Annual Agricultural Policy Conference (AAPC) was held in Dodoma from April 17th to 19th, 2024, marking a decade of dialogue and impact. The conference gathered over 400 participants, bringing together a dynamic mix of policymakers, researchers, academics, farmers, private sector representatives, development partners, and financial institutions.
This year’s theme, “A Decade of Impactful Policy Reforms: Driving Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Food Systems”, reflected not only the progress made over the past ten years but also the road ahead for Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Guest of Honour, Prime Minister Hon. Kassim Majaliwa, who emphasized the Government’s commitment to streamlining the agricultural policy environment.
“Government is committed to removing overlapping regulations and constraints across sector institutions through consolidation of crop and livestock boards,” said the Prime Minister.
With over 30 presentations and vibrant panel discussions, attendees engaged deeply across eight major thematic areas, including food system reforms, access to finance, land use, trade policies, and natural resource management. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries also led special sessions to tackle emerging challenges and strategic priorities.
USAID Deputy Director, from the Office of Economic Growth, Plato Hieronimus underscored youth as a cornerstone of their programming:
“USAID is proud to be aligned with the Government of Tanzania as it focuses on youth. We are proud to have ongoing investments of more than $100 million that support BBT initiatives.”
