Dr. Betty Waized is a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania. She teaches undergraduate students Business Strategy, Agribusiness Management, and Agribusiness & Entrepreneurship Development. At the Master’s level, her key modules are Strategic Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Finance, and Business Environment.
Her research interests include food and agri-business, sustainable agriculture, socio-economic empowerment of smallholder farmers, value chain analysis, organic farming, market linkages, and farmer organizations – to mention a few.
She has published and co-authored over 20 articles and chapters centered around agricultural research for economic development. Some titles include: ‘Policy Options to Enhance Markets for Nutrient-Dense Foods in Tanzania’ and ‘The Characterization of Elements that have Successfully Linked Farmers to Markets. Global Partnership Programme – Linking Farmers to the Markets (GPP-LFM)’.
Dr. Waized holds a Ph.D. in Agribusiness from the University of Wales, Bangor, United Kingdom, and is a member of the Agricultural Economists Society of Tanzania (AGREST) and the Tanzania Women Association Against Poverty (TWAAP).
