Overview

Feed the Future Tanzania Kilimo Tija (Horticulture Productivity) Project also  referred to as Kilimo Tija Project intended to transform the Tanzanian horticulture market system into a more vibrant, competitive, resilient, and inclusive system capable of fuelling sustained growth and drawing in new market participants.

Kilimo Tija’s primary goal was to increase economic opportunities in horticulture market systems, with a special focus on youth, by working with public and private sector associations, youth-led and women-focused institutions, and national and local government authorities.

It was a 5-year project (2022-2027) implemented by ACDI/VOCA with a budget of $37.9 million.

ASPIRES TANZANIA’S ROLE IN THE KILIMO TIJA PROJECT

ASPIRES Tanzania concentrates on Component 3-Strengthening the enabling environment for market systems development. The primary area of responsibility for ASPIRES are the following substantive area(s) as developed through ACDI/VOCA guidance:

Support Policy and Regulatory Reforms to Enhance Enabling Environment for Horticulture Food Systems

Foster Partnership with Key Horticultural Stakeholders to Address Binding Constraints to the Sector's Growth

Provide Analytical and Technical Support during the Implementation of Kilimo Tija

Promote Enabling Environment for Youth Participation in the Horticultural Food System as Stipulated in the USAID and Ministry of Agriculture Youth Strategies

Regulatory framework for cereals and other produce, including horticulture under the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA)

Contract farming regulations
