PAG at the Forefront of Tanzania’s Agricultural Policy Engagement

2025 has been an exciting year for the Policy Analysis Group (PAG), with the privilege of being invited to present to two presidential committees – a clear recognition of our role in shaping Tanzania’s agricultural policy dialogue.

April 24th – PAG presented to the Presidential Commission for Tax Assessment and Advisory, addressing pressing tax revenue challenges faced by the agricultural sector. We shared actionable recommendations and introduced an innovative concept for electronically monitoring policy changes at the national level—a model that can be scaled across all ministries to strengthen transparency and responsiveness.

August 4th – PAG engaged with the Presidential Food and Agriculture Delivery Council in Dodoma. Discussions centered on increasing productivity and decreasing import dependence for key commodities like wheat and edible oil, strengthening public-private partnerships, and encouraging private sector involvement, among other topics.

The Council has expressed that they would like a sustained partnership with the PAG, including sharing information through policy briefs on priority research themes.

About PAG
Founded in 2013, the Policy Analysis Group is an informal, voluntary community of practice with 24 members drawn from agricultural policy projects, academia, local and international think tanks, and development initiatives. Our mission is to:

  1. Provide a platform for sharing policy research and activities
  2. Enhance coordination, prevent duplication, and promote collaboration
  3. Facilitate policy dialogue for coherence
  4. Ensure consistency in policy messaging across the sector

This year’s engagements reaffirm PAG’s commitment to evidence-based policy solutions that drive sustainable agricultural transformation in Tanzania.
